On January 3, 2024, Marshall County Deputies responded to a location near the Town of New Hope to meet with Madison County Deputies in reference to a person who had been shot.
When deputies responded to the scene, the victim, a 59 year old male, was being loaded into an ambulance. The victim had what appeared to be a non-life-threatening injury to his left shoulder area. The victim was able to inform deputies that he had been shot while driving in his vehicle on Highway 431 near the Guntersville Dam Road. The victim stated that he believed he knew who shot him, and was able to provide some information regarding their identities and the vehicle they were driving. Investigators responded to the scene, and began attempting to locate 3 persons of interest related to the incident. Investigators spent much of the evening working leads into the incident.

At approximately 2:50am, Madison County
Deputies made contact with one of the persons of interest, Kelly Wooten 37 of New Hope. Wooten was found to have warrants for her arrest through Guntersville Police Department. She was arrested on those warrants, and was turned over to Guntersville Police. Investigators continued following up leads, and interviewing witnesses throughout the day on January 4, 2024. On January 5, 2024, Investigators obtained a warrant for Wooten for Shooting Into an Occupied Vehicle. She was arrested later this same date upon her release from the City of Guntersville. Her bond has been set at $30,000. It should be noted that this is an isolated incident, and that the victim and offender were known to each other prior to this incident. The suspect was quickly identified, and thanks to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, she was quickly apprehended.
